The hardest part of swim training isn't the swimming — it's the week away from your pool. A work trip, a beach vacation, a holiday at the in-laws', and the streak you spent all summer building quietly resets to zero. Most swimmers accept that as the cost of travel. You don't have to.
The hotel pool problem
Almost every hotel has a pool. Almost none of them are built for swimming. Push off the wall of a typical hotel pool and you get three strokes before the next wall — touch, turn, push, repeat. That's not a workout, it's a series of interruptions. Add a family in the shallow end and most swimmers give up before they start.
But the pool itself isn't the problem. It's water, it holds you, and it's twenty steps from your room. The problem is the wall — and tethered swimming removes the wall.
A complete setup that fits in your carry-on
The STT Travel Swim Belt is a tethered swimming setup with no pole and no base: an adjustable neoprene belt, an 8ft EPDM stretch cord, and an anchor strap. Loop the anchor strap around any fixed point near the water, clip the cord between the strap and your belt, and swim. No tools, no drilling, no permanent installation — and nothing about it stays behind when you check out.
Setup takes under a minute: wrap, clip, swim. Breaking it down is even faster.
Where to anchor
Any solid fixed point near the water works — pool handrails, fence posts, deck railings, ladders. The anchor strap fits rails up to 4 inches wide, which covers nearly every handrail and ladder you'll meet at a hotel or vacation rental. For anchor points that sit farther back from the water's edge, the Extended version adds an adjustable extender strap to close the gap.
That flexibility is what makes it a travel tool rather than a travel compromise. Hotel pools, vacation rentals, community pools, a friend's backyard — if there's water and something sturdy beside it, you're swimming.
What the swim feels like
The cord stretches with your stroke, and the resistance comes from your own effort against it — swim harder and the work goes up, ease off and it eases with you. There's no wall to interrupt your rhythm, no flip turns, no resets. You swim, and you keep swimming, until you stop. For a lot of swimmers, a tethered session in a small hotel pool is a better training swim than laps in a full-size one.
Never miss a swim day again
The swimmers who hold their fitness through the year aren't the ones with the most willpower — they're the ones whose gear removes the excuses. A belt and a cord in your carry-on means the question is never "can I swim on this trip?" It's just "before breakfast or after?"
